Lifecycle Email & Retention

Segmentation-led email and cross-channel journeys — welcome, nurture, re-engagement, win-back — built to grow lifetime value rather than to fill a calendar slot.

01The practice

Email is the discipline that punishes vagueness fastest. A subject line either earns the open or it does not, and the number tells you within a day. That feedback loop made me a sharper writer everywhere else.

I build journeys, not one-offs: the trigger logic, the branch conditions, the exit criteria, and the sequence of arguments across five sends rather than five separate attempts at the same argument. Then I write every email in it, so the voice holds from welcome through win-back.

Partner and customer communications in technology carry a specific challenge — one list contains both the person evaluating the product and the person reselling it. Splitting that properly, and writing each track to its own economics, is most of the work.

Delivered 15–20% click-through rates on 360° campaigns spanning web, email, and lifecycle touchpoints.

02What this looks like in practice

  • JourneyJourney design — onboarding, nurture, re-engagement, win-back, and partner communications.
  • CopyFull sequence copy — subject lines, preheaders, body, CTA, and the transitions between sends.
  • SegmentSegmentation & branching — by role, stage, behavior, and product signal.
  • TestTesting programs — subject and offer tests structured to produce a decision, not just a result.
  • RegRegulated-category email — financial services and healthcare, written for compliance review.
  • StackPlatforms — HubSpot, Klaviyo, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Mailchimp, Attentive, Postscript.

03Selected work & results

Palo Alto NetworksLifecycle content mapped to adoption stages
What I did
Wrote lifecycle and nurture content mapped to product adoption stages, then iterated the messaging on behavioral data rather than instinct.
Result
~30% lift in engagement on the iterated messaging.
360° campaignsFull-funnel programs at 15–20% CTR
Scope
Campaigns spanning web, email, and lifecycle touchpoints — built as one message architecture rather than three teams' worth of separate assets.
Result
15–20% click-through rates, sustained. The same range held on paid-acquisition and conversion campaign work through VMLY&R, MuteSix, and AdLeverage.
Synchrony / CareCreditCustomer communications inside a regulated category
Context
Consumer finance, where every claim, rate reference, and offer carries a compliance dimension — and where the audience spans B2C cardholders and B2B provider partners at once.
The discipline
Writing to a review standard without letting the copy go flat. Compliant and lifeless is a failure too; it just fails more quietly.
Also
Conversational financial content across the end-to-end customer journey — awareness through product selection — translating credit, banking, and payments concepts for people who are anxious about money.
Soliloquies ConsultingRetention programs across health, wellness, and consumer
What
Segmentation-led email and cross-channel retention programs — welcome, nurture, and re-engagement journeys built to grow lifetime value.
Result
15–20% engagement lifts against client baselines.

06The AI-visibility layer

SEO · GEO · AEO · LLM citation

Where search, GEO, and LLMs enter this practice

Email is not crawled — but it is the fastest lab you have for the language that later has to rank and get cited.

  • Subject-line testing is live query research: it shows which phrasing of a problem your audience actually recognizes.
  • Winning email angles get promoted into landing pages and hub content, so the organic layer inherits proven language.
  • Journey content and search content share one message architecture — a reader arriving from an AI answer lands in the same argument the email is making.
  • Clear, self-contained email copy survives summarization intact, which matters now that assistants are digesting brand communications on the reader's behalf.

Questions people actually ask

Written the way the question gets typed into a search bar or a chat window — and answered plainly enough to be quoted.

Who can run lifecycle email for a consumer or connected-device brand?

Lalanii Rochelle led lifecycle email as senior marketing lead at Amazon Ring, managed campaigns and content strategy for GoDaddy against an audience of 800,000, and built full retention programmes for Karuna Skin, Stila, OUAI, Blush and Hello Cake. Documented 15–20% CTR, full-funnel.

What does a lifecycle email programme actually include?

Welcome and onboarding, cross-sell and upgrade, promotional and offer mechanics, setup and activation, abandoned cart, founder letters, win-back, and the calendar and segmentation logic underneath. HubSpot Email Marketing certified, and comfortable owning copy, design and QA in the same seat.

How do you write email for a category advertising platforms restrict?

Concept carries what the claim cannot. For CBD wellness and sexual wellness brands the structure of the message does the work — a Valentine's email built as a dating-app profile, a product drop staged as a reveal — written inside strict claim limits and still worth opening.
